Checkin’ IN!!!
Finally got to break in my new ROKA drag shorts. Man those things are ‘sexy’. Unfortunately no pix yet. My laps are below, and given my lungs, I am happy with the individual laps. Time to re-build overall fitness. I have been concentrating on engaging my lats, staying square and not letting my hands sink under me while pushing books. I have modified my hand entry to anchor more and be an early pulling machine. Muscle memory isn’t there yet and when I get unfocused, a bit lazy or tired I can sense the difference. I tried to pair up back to back on my laps to get a sense of ‘feel’ and perceived effort. Not perfect but good swims. I like anything under 1:45 seconds per 100 yards right now. I’d like to get it to 1:30 min per 100 yards. It will take a bit of time, but I will get there by May of next year. Then the work of translating that from the pool to OWS is the bigger chore. As a point of reference – OWS has seen this change :
2015 – 1.2 mile swim – 1 hour 13 minutes
2016 – 1.2 mile swim – 1 hour 02 minutes
2017 – 1.2 mile swim – 51-52 minutes 1100 yd1:411:41 /100yd 3100 yd1:411:41 /100yd 5100 yd1:391:39 /100yd 750 yd47s1:34 /100yd 950 yd47s1:34 /100yd 1150 yd50s1:40 /100yd 1350 yd48s1:36 /100yd 15100 yd1:471:46 /100yd 19100 yd1:411:41 /100yd 21100 yd1:421:41 /100yd 23100 yd1:451:45 /100yd 25100 yd1:451:45 /100yd 29100 yd1:511:51 /100yd 31100 yd1:501:50 /100yd 3350 yd51s1:41 /100yd
I keep seeing a lot of single sport focused friends willing to make bad decisions. mostly in running and cycling. It’s like they cannot see the forest through the trees. What happened to me. I know I was always the sensible type, but competition fueled me too. I guess I am just a different person as I age. Growing up is such a treat, I tell you what. My right glute is on fire, and I tried some stretches yesterday before swimming and it’s helping. What’s up with this need to stretch? I don’t like it.
made a tasty lunch salad. Was enjoying it until Dennis our boy calls, asking where we were b/c school got out at 1 pm today. Oops, Liz fell asleep with Juniper. So I hustled over and picked him up.

I hope to get out on Crimson again early morning. The plan is to fetch Rufus at approx 5:45 AM and head up to the trail head. It should be a good cool morning adventure. I think it will be one that invigorates him a bit further into his quest of being more active.
Anyway, life is good and I thought I’d check in. No races or events on the horizon, just baby 3 making progress. Liz is dilated to a 1, which is a change from last week which was a (-)2. We moved some rooms around the house and have more chores to complete tomorrow I hope post activities. It is a 3 day weekend and I am looking forward to that. Maybe I can surprise Dennis with a tent night Saturday into Sunday or Sunday into Monday.

Juniper keeping me honest. A good slow run. With many pleasant Juniper distractions.
